Some of you might be wondering what type of jobs a student can do while studying in Australia? Maybe you have heard a story about a student from Indonesia who worked as a dish washer in a restaurant in Australia. It might sound unattractive, however it is a decent job and you can potentially earn $15-$20 per hour. If you work 20 hours a week as per the limit for international student, you can earn over $1200 per month.

There are also many other jobs that you can do, however generally it is very hard to get an office job as most offices don’t accept international student and prefer to hire full time employee that are a permanent resident or citizen of Australia.
There are plenty of other jobs that you can consider when applying for work. You can be a waitress at a restaurant, a barista in a café, sales assistant at a supermarket or department store, you can drive Uber, work in a factory and many more. You can also look for jobs within the university environment, for example you can work s a librarian, university shops, canteen and even better if you can apply for a job as a tutor for one of the subjects that you have done in the previous semester.

How to Apply for Work?
There are two common ways to look for a job. The first one is to go around the area where you live or around your campus and approach the businesses directly to ask if they have any vacant position. I would suggest that you have your CV ready with you when doing this so that you can hand it to the store manager or owner directly while you are there. It is wise to also ask for the store manager’s contact details so you can contact him/her to follow up on your application.
The second way is to look for a position through job website such as https://au.indeed.com/ or https://www.seek.com.au/. Through those website you have the ability to submit your application to multiple jobs. You can also filter by their location to ensure that you don’t have to travel too far from where you live and also look at the indicative salary that they are offering.
